Company Vans was founded by Paul Van Doren in Southern California in March 1966. Originally named the Van Doren Rubber Company. Vans have always been focused on the skate, surf and music culture. For starters, they produced "custom made" shoes in the shop, to suit customer requirements. Vans have since developed their shoes with input from professional riders such as Stacy Peralta and Tony Alva. Vans still have a strong position in the skate world and sponsors include pro rider Geoff Rowley, Tony Trujilo and Dustin Dollin. Vans have a great skate park in Orlando USA frequented by big names in the skateboarding world, but is also open to all. Vans are also the main sponsor of the Vans Warped Tour, which is held every year on a number of locations around Australia, Japan, Europe, Canada and the USA. Warped Tour started as a skate punk and third wave festival, but has over time attracted more and more towards post-hardcore, pop punk and metalcore. During the festival are there also competitions in BMX and skateboarding amongst other things.
